COMMON HISTORY: Ranked 8th in his class overall at graduation. Following graduation from Academy, assigned as helm officer on U.S.S. Pegasus under Captain Erik Pressman. In 2358, the ship disappeard mysteriously, with Riker and Pressman the only survivors. Details of the incident were surpressed at the time, but as of 2370, it was revealed that Pressman had been illegally testing a cloaking device, and the ship had been destroyed during a crew mutiny where Riker had fought to defend his captain. In 2359, Riker was stationed on planet Betazed as attaché to Federation diplomatic office. Riker posted to the U.S.S. Potemkin in 2361. Led mission to rescue science team on planet Nervala IV.
POINT OF DIVERGENCE: A duplicate of Lieutenant Riker was created by a transporter malfunction when, during the beam-out from Nervala, one copy of Riker returned to the Potemkin, and another was reflected by the planetΓÇÖs distortion field and materialized back on the planet. This Riker lived alone for eight years until he was re-discovered by the U.S.S. Enterprise-D on a brief return to the planet in 2369. The duplicate Riker opted to go by his middle name to distinguish himself from Commander William Riker. Thomas Riker was posted to the U.S.S. Ghandi in 2369 for a terraforming mission in the Lagana sector. Slightly over a year later, went AWOL and joined the Maquis. In 2371, stardate 48467, impersonated WIlliam Riker at Deep Space Nine, commandeered U.S.S. Defiant, kidnapped Major Kira Nerys. Although Riker and his accomplices made several successful strikes against Cardassian installations, he was ultimately apprehended. Captain Benjamin Sisko negotiated an agreement whereby Riker was surrendered to the Cardassians, his accomplices remanded to Federation custody. Despite the CardassiansΓÇÖ death penalty for such offenses, Riker was sentenced to life imprisonment at the Lazon II labor camp.
